St Lawrence Church
Moodubelle, Udupi District, Karnataka
Moodubelle Parish, also known as Belle or Boliye, was originally part of Shirva Parish. In 1888, Fr Gregory Anthony Menezes constructed the first chapel at Belle on government land obtained with the assistance of the Catholic Tahsildar of Udupi. In the early years, Holy Mass was celebrated in private homes, especially at the residence of Mr Rocky Aranha. Responding to growing pastoral needs and guided by farsighted leadership, the Lower Church (Padroado) and Upper Church (Propaganda) of Shirva were amalgamated on 15 September 1910. As part of this reorganization, 340 families were ceded to form a new parish at Belle.
On 02 November 1910, the chapel was officially raised to the status of a parish and dedicated to St Lawrence, with Fr Casmir Fernandes appointed as the first Parish Priest.
